Holt Dental Supply Helps Out in Haiti

In the United States, easy access to quality dental care is one of those things that many of us take for granted. The people of Haiti, living in one of the poorest countries in the western hemisphere, have limited access to dental care. For several years Holt Dental Supply has supported a charitable effort to provide dental care in Haiti.

Dr. Pruhs and NPH

In 2006 an international aid association, Our Little Brothers and Sisters, began work on a new hospital near Port-Au-Prince. The area has no water/sewer service and electricity is limited. Dr. Ron Pruhs and his wife Ronnie have been involved in
providing free dental care for many years. Dr. Pruhs is a retired dentist and professor of pediatric dentistry at Marquette University. His wife Ronnie is a registered nurse. They convinced the staff to include a dental clinic in the new hospital. This is where Holt Dental Supply comes into the picture.

New Hospital Contains Dental Clinic

Holt Dental acquired several pieces of equipment when Marquette's School of Dentistry was remodeled. Paul Shorts, one of Holt Dental's award winning service technicians, began work on refurbishing the the equipment which was then shipped to Haiti. Another technician, Ken Durbin, traveled to the facility in Haiti and spent weeks getting the equipment installed and running in the new 3 chair clinic. Holt Dental also donated many other tools and miscellaneous supplies as well as the services of other talented staff members.

Service Department Continues to Refurbish Equipment

Paul Shorts said that refurbishing equipment for donation is now an ongoing effort with local dental offices remodeling then donating old equipment. Dentists also come in to Holt to request the donation of equipment and supplies for charitable work in many countries.

The above pictures were taken previous to the recent natural disasters the Port-Au-Prince has encountered.  We encourage dental professionals that would like to volunteer at the dental clinic to contact us at info@holtdental.com.  If you would like to continue to support the efforts throughout Haiti please visit the link below to the American Red Cross to make a donation.  Thank you for your generosity and humanity.
