Office Design
Q: How can I convey an impression of high trust - low fear?
A: First impressions do matter. The overall ambience of the office from the moment they enter the reception area is the first line of defense. Incorporating an open and welcoming reception desk, a well planned lighting scheme, interesting ceiling design and thoughtful finish selection can do much to put patients at ease. Fireplaces, fish tanks, televisions, juice bars and children's play area are pleasant diversions. Offering these options allow patients to feel more in control.
Incorporating a window in the treatment room is an ideal psychological diversion/escape for the patient. Other stress reducing amenities in the treatment rooms can include ceiling monitors to play DVD's, CD player with headphones and warm towels to freshen with.
Q: What is the optimal size and layout of a treatment room?
A: Dimensions and layout of the treatment room are based on:
- Work space for the dental assistant
- Access to the dynamic and static instruments during treatment
- Efficient traffic flow into and out of the operatory
- Proper placement of dental equipment when Doctor and Assistant are ergonomically positioned at the chair
- Room should face north or east on a window wall
A: Here are many pros to the rear delivery system. In this layout, dynamic instrumentation is delivered from the 12 o'clock position, behind the patient's head. Advantages:
- Good patient access to the chair
- All instrumentation is out of patient's view
- Accommodates left or right hand positioning
- Single utility location requiring minimal floor space
- Supports peripheral operatory equipment
